Birthdays

The previous post has led me to write this post about birthdays. Let's share some fun facts about our birthdays. Mine is October 4th---Feast of St. Francis. BUT, the funny thing about my birthday being on this particular feast is that the song, "The Prayer of St. Francis" has been my favorite for years----before I even knew that my birthday was on his feast. Coincidence??
I was born in 1970, which means I'LL BE 35 next week. ------------sigh-------------.
I remember sitting in my 4th grade classroom, wearing a black velvet shirt with a gold velvet stripe, when President Ronald Reagan was shot. I remember the smell of marajuana on my step-father------------obviously, I was raised in the 1970's. One of my favorite childhood memories is the song, "Band on the Run." I remember having ONE birthday "party" as a child--for my 11th birthday. Children these days have a party every year. I remember what I got on that birthday---a make-your-own-makeup set, a training bra and panties from my grandmother, and a Simon Says electronic game. We went for pizza and roller skating. The friends that were there were Michelle Stahl and Heather Something. My husband makes my birthday cakes. The kids always make homemade cards. I usually get exactly what I've written down on my "wish list." I make things simple---new pot holders, new dishcloths, non-stick skillet, you know, really "fun" gifts! ha.

Please, do tell about YOU!!

My birthday is on February 28th. I am 36. I think my best birthday growing up would have been in 6th grade when I got my German Shepard. He was one of my best friends for years. Also, when I was probably six, my mom made this really cute train cake with all the cars filled with candy and stuff. When I went to blow out the candles, my hair kinda got in the way. It didn't hurt anything, but scared me and burnt hair smells pretty bad. I hope you have a great birthday Lisa, and on the feast of St. Francis, that is cool.

Penni, do you know what happened to Alexa's blog? I'm thinking that she flew the coop again. She does that once in a while. I tried to email her, but her email come back undeliverable. Thought you might know.

Child of Mary, I like your rule. I guess I always just feel so guilty about spending unnecessary money on myself that I always ask for things I need. My husband isn't romantic enough to get anything different, either! ha. I know I shouldn't feel guilty, but I do. I think this probably comes from my husband and I having to spend so much because we have so many kiddos. If I just get a pot-holder or a non-stick skillet (which I really do need once a year or more), then one of the kids can have that pair of jeans they've been wanting, etc. You know what I'm saying? Maybe I'm rambling, but I make sense to myself. I really am a selfish woman---really. I like things my own way and I think everyone else should think like I do, but this is one small way that I can be unselfish, I guess.

Lisa, I love it that you share your birthday with St. Francis' feast! That is so perfect. Please remember on the 4th..., get up early and check the present in the shed first!

Oh my gosh, Kat. My jaw literally dropped when I read your comment. I am so sorry that you had to endure that kind of treatment as a child. My heart is aching. Is your father still alive?

Happy Birthday today!!!!
You are still a baby. My birthday was Sept. 3rd and I was 52, but most of the time, I don't feel 52.
I still have some children at home, so that truly helps! I was like you, in the fact that I didn't have birthday parties really, but my mom ALWAYS made me a special little cake and tried to show her love moreso on that day!
My birthday is the feastday of St. Gregory the Great! That is cool!
I also rather enjoy the fact that it often falls on Labor Day Weekend and I have a running joke that I don't just have a birthday, but a "birthday weekend!" I get spoiled on my day these days and try to get them to cut back, but they never listen...I don't mean furs or trips to Hawaii or anything, but you know what I mean...Anyway, my 18 year old still makes me homemade cards and I love them! I don't know if I have a special birthday, except that when I turned 28, I had just delivered my first child after trying for many years to have a baby...she was born on Aug. 27th, so needless to say, I was so happy and grateful!
Anyway, hope you have a lovely day on this feast of St. Francis. OH!
Guess what? For the past couple of weeks, we have had two visitors in our backyard...a momma doe and a baby fawn! We don't live in the country either, although on the end of town. I tossed out some sliced apples...don't know what they eat, but they ate them or something did! Anyway, "Momma" just looked up at me on the deck as I tossed them over, as if to say,"I trust you..thank you!" It was beautiful to behold...our own private "BAMBI" story! :)

I love deer. We have a little family that lives around here, too. They are so much fun to watch.

You are welcome! Hope your day was good. I haven't seen our little Bambi family again, but since they had been roaming around here off and on for a couple of weeks...at least the "momma" had been, I suspect that they will return, unless someone turns them in, since there are two and they are much more noticeable now.
I want them to be safe from the traffic...there is a fairly busy street on two sides of the lot behind my house, sooo....anyway, they were so beautiful and graceful and I loved the way she just stared at me. I had never had that experience before...we sorta connected, like a St. Francis thing...now I get that better! :) However, I don't think I'm ready for the Lions and Tigers, and Bears, OH MY! LOL!

Thanks, Alexa. I celebrated by going to see the doctor----I have an upper respiratory infection, having a child home sick from school, AND, taking my youngest to the beauty shop to fix what she had done to herself with the scissors.

I guess you're in the best position to help him, Kat......right in the middle of the Jesuits. I'm sure you've already offered his intentions upon their altar, no?
